GRAVITY "From Script to Screen" Featurette

Academy Award® winners Sandra Bullock (“The Blind Side”) and George Clooney (“Syriana”) star in “Gravity,” a heart-pounding thriller that pulls you into the infinite and unforgiving realm of deep space. The film was directed by Oscar® nominee Alfonso Cuarón (“Children of Men”). 

Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski (Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalski completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. 

The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space. “Gravity” was written by Alfonso Cuarón & Jonás Cuarón, and produced by Alfonso Cuarón and David Heyman (the “Harry Potter” films). Chris deFaria, Nikki Penny and Stephen Jones served as executive producers. The behind-the-scenes team includes multiple Oscar®-nominated director of photography Emmanuel Lubezki (“Children of Men,” “The New World”); production designer Andy Nicholson; editors Alfonso Cuarón and Mark Sanger; and costume designer Jany Temime (the “Harry Potter” films). 

The visual effects were handled by Oscar®-nominated visual effects supervisor Tim Webber (“The Dark Knight”). The music was composed by Steven Price. Warner Bros. Pictures presents an Esperanto Filmoj/Heyday Films production, an Alfonso Cuarón film, “Gravity.” Opening October 4, 2013, it will be released in 3D and 2D and IMAX®, and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment company.

With the chart-topping success of JUANES: MTV Unplugged, the world’s foremost Latin Rock artist showcased new interpretations of his most beloved songs in a more intimate and orchestral setting.  The album went on to win last year’s Latin Grammy for Album of the Year,  (his genre-leading 19^th), and this-year’s GRAMMY for Best Latin Pop Album” – where Juanes was also the only Latin artist to perform on the Grammy telecast.  But when it came time for Juanes to take the album on tour, fan demand across the world precluded performances in such small venues one would normally play acoustically. So, Juanes responded with the presentation of his “Loud & Unplugged” tour – which saw he and his band of highly skilled musicians keep the acoustic instrument spirit of his unplugged project, but with the rock energy of his previous arena and stadium level shows. Bringing those two world’s together in large size theater spaces, Juanes’ “Loud & Unplugged Tour” ­was the most extensive Latin music tour of the year and met with wide praise for its level of musicianship and energy. Following two sold-out performances at the famed Hollywood Bowl, the Los Angeles Times declared: “the show confirms Juanes as the rare artist — in company with the likes of Bono, and Bruce Springsteen— with the power to inspire beyond the arena walls.”

Creatively charged by the tour, Juanes quickly returned to the studio with his acoustic guitar in hand, but with an additional creative partner won over by the very special tour.  Famed rock producer Steve Lillywhite  (who has helmed the studio boards for U2, The Killers, The Rolling Stones, The Dave Matthews Band, Peter Gabriel, Morrissey & more) flew to Colombia to see Juanes perform in his hometown of Medellin, and the two like-minded musical spirits from opposite hemispheres immediately bonded, and began working together from initial planning in the mountains of Colombia to recordings in Los Angeles. The resulting new music marks Steve Lillywhite’s first Spanish language project, and is done in collaboration with an additional expert on the intersection of boundary pushing rock and Latin culture –with the participation of producer/musician Emmanuel “Meme” del Real of Café Tacvba.

Blu, Jewel, and their three kids Bia, Carla and Tiago, leave their domesticated life in the magical city for a journey to the Amazon where they encounter a menagerie of characters who are born to be wild.  Little relationship annoyances, such as Blu's continued un-macaw-like insistence on making pancakes for the kids, are no big deal.  Blu's former human owner Linda has also moved from her cozy home in Minnesota to the reserve to be with the hunky wildlife preservationist Tulio.  But the idyllic life gets disrupted when Jewel discovers that her long lost father and his clan have been discovered hiding in the Amazon rain forest, where their habitat is under threat.  Part of the issue is that Jewel's relatives, led by radical patriarch Eduardo (voiced by Andy Garcia), don't trust humans no matter how well-meaning and Eduardo doesn't accept domesticated Blu, even if the former house bird learned to fly.  There's also Jewel's suave ex-boyfriend Roberto (voiced by Bruno Mars) who stirs up Blu's jealousy.
