With the run of her comedy show, Kiki Melendez' Hot Tamales Live, on the prestigious Showtime Television Network, airing more than 350 times, Kiki has accomplished what very few have. The critically acclaimed show has opened doors to female comics of all races, changing the face of Hollywood since 2002. 

Female comediennes do not have many opportunities in the comedy circuit in America nor the world, which is why it so important for a woman to get out there and make a hit show. This is the essence of her hit show Hot Tamales Live, this is the motivation for Kiki Melendez.

Latinos are the second largest ethnic group in the USA yet it is hard to find programming and representation for this market. In 2010, Kiki decided she wanted to open doors for her people of the Dominican Republic and other Latinos around the world.  She created Spanish Language Stand Up Comedy and did a tour in Florida which was a huge success.

LOS ÁNGELES, California – 29 de abril de 2014 – RADiUS-TWC anunció el día de hoy que los latinos también tendrán la oportunidad de ver una versión en español de FED UP, la nueva y anticipada película que cuenta con la narración del actor y director de cine y televisión mexicano Kuno Becker, cuando se estrene en los cines de todo Estados Unidos en mayo. FED UP, que sigue las vidas de varias familias, entre ellas, una familia latina, revela el oscuro secreto que tus marcas favoritas no quieren que sepas: muchos de nosotros nos enfermamos por lo que comemos con mucha mayor frecuencia de lo que nadie jamás imaginó, debido en gran parte al hecho de que el 80% de los 600.000 productos comestibles que se venden en este país contienen azúcar agregada.

FED UP, narrada en inglés por Katie Couric, se estrena en todo Estados Unidos el 9 de mayo. La versión en español de FED UP llega a los cines el 16 de mayo. 

Según un estudio publicado en 2010 por la Office of Minority Health (Oficina de Salud de Grupos Minoritarios), los latinos en Estados Unidos tienen un 20% más de probabilidad de ser obesos que las personas blancas no hispanas, y eso no le parece nada bien a Becker.

“Es penoso enterarse de que la obesidad es una de las principales causas de muerte en México, mi país natal, y que aquí en Estados Unidos, los índices de obesidad de la comunidad hispana son superiores a los de los grupos de población que no son latinos”, afirmó Becker. “Estoy sumamente orgulloso de asociarme a RADiUS-TWC en FED UP y hacer mi parte para que la comunidad hispana y nuestra nación en general puedan comenzar a tomar decisiones informadas sobre los alimentos que están consumiendo”.

Becker dirigió este año su primer largometraje, PANIC 5 BRAVO, que tuvo su premier en el Festival de Cine Internacional de Guadalajara. Es conocido entre el público hispano en Estados Unidos por su interpretación de Rubén Berrizabal en la súper exitosa telenovela de Televisa Soñadoras y de Santiago Muñez en la trilogía de fútbol de Disney “Goal!”.

FED UP fue dirigida por la galardonada Stephanie Soechtig (TAPPED) y producida por Katie Couric (que también es la narradora de la versión en inglés) y Laurie David (productora de AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH y ganadora del Oscar).
