Last Saturday, I went to to the movies to watch "Man of Steel" directed by Zack Snyder and starred by Amy Adam as "Lois Lane" and Henry Cavill as "Clark Kent/Kal-El" and to be honest I enjoyed it. I thought it was a good movie, I won't lie that I expected more action on it, the real action comes on around the last 20 minutes of the film, but it was entertaining for me. I think personally, like all first movie about super heroes is more about how the hero became who he is and that's what happens in "Man of Steel". Is about Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) finding himself and how the world will react about him when they find out he is from another planet and if they will trust him and believe that he is there to help them and not to hurt them.
Something that caught my attention on the movie was the part where Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) is asking advice from a priest about if he should give himself to humankind, for them to surrender him to the enemy and in the background there is the image of Jesus Christ. I found it very interesting, because it made me think if Director Zack Snyder made this shot to compare Superman with Jesus Christ. If you think about it, according to the bible Jesus gave himself to the Roman guards to be crucified and save humankind. During that process Jesus was humiliated, surrendered by his own people and he didn't fight back, even though he have the power to do so, because that was his purpose on Earth to save humankind from their sins. And I think maybe that's what the Director Zack Snyder wanted to show about Superman, that even though Clark Kent(Henry Cavill) was humiliated, bullied when he was younger and as an adult, he knew how strong he could be and hurt them, so he decided to walk away. Also, when the villain of the movie ask for humankind to surrender Superman if not the world will be destroy, what does the people do? They hunt him down and what does Superman does? He surrenders to humankind to be given to the villain and he doesn't fight back even though he had the power, because he knew and finally found out that that was his purpose in life to save humankind. Maybe I'm wrong but that's what I thought and opinion when I saw that shot.
And if you think about it, I think there is also a message and it's that it takes a lot a courage of a human being to not fight back with violence to the ignorance and cowardice of others who humiliate them with words, but to instead fight back with a smile and give them a blessing, because they know they have a bigger purpose in life and demonstrate that he/she is better than them and you just need to pity them because it's just people who hate themselves and they need to humiliate others to feel better.
And I also saw that on the movie "42" from Warner Brothers, which is about a black baseball player Jackie Robinson who was constantly humiliated by others because of his skin color and he never fought back on the way a lot of people wanted him to do, with violence, but instead, he fought back by demonstrating them he was the best on the field and because of that he changed the history of the Big Leagues in the United States and I think he was a hero, he changed the mentality of a lot of Americans with his courage. And there are a lot of heroes out there, that demonstrate there courage by not fighting back with violence, but instead by fighting back with a smile, with there heads up with dignity and helping others who are going through the same situation, because they have a bigger purpose in life and they are better from those who humiliate them and that requires a lot of courage.
Saying that and going back to my review, I give "Man of Steel" 7 of 10. I did really enjoy the movie and at the end all the audience at the theatre applause, so I think they also liked it. Below the trailer of "Man of Steel" Enjoy!
